(ECNS) -- A snow leopard has been recorded by a far-infrared camera for the first time in Hoh Xil, a national nature reserve in northwest China's Qinghai Province, the Sanjiangyuan National Park confirmed Monday.

Located in the northwest of Yushu Prefecture in Qinghai Province, Hoh Xil covers 45,000-square-kilometers and is one of the highest altitude reserves in the world.

Rare rock sheep, brown bears, and Tibetan snow chicken were also recorded in the footage, indicating the number of wild animals in the region was on the up.

Rich in rare animal and plant species, Hoh Xil boasts an important gene bank. It was enlisted as a World Natural Heritage site in July 2017.
