(ECNS) -- The population of Chinese minors using the Internet has increased significantly, with 32.9 percent of pupils using the Internet before their school age, according to the Report on Chinese Minors' Internet Use 2019 released on Wednesday.
The report was based on a sample survey of 34,661 students from primary and secondary schools and vocational schools in 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China.
China had 175 million minor netizens in 2019 and 93.1 percent of them used the Internet, the report says. Listening to music and playing games are their two most popular online entertainment activities.
This trend demands higher standards for Internet education skills from families, network content supervision and management for regulators, and a targeted protection mechanism for Internet companies.
