(ECNS) -- Shanghai is to gradually reopen public transport from Sunday as the COVID-19 pandemic situation gets better, Deputy Mayor Zhang Wei announced on Thursday.
Citizens will be required to take public transport with a negative nucleic acid test result obtained within 48 hours, Zhang Wei told a press conference.
According to the official, a Mobility as a Service system will be launched as soon as possible to integrate payment and QR code scanning links, making sure citizens can use one app to satisfy their entire transport needs.
Meanwhile, buffer zones will be established at all stations for emergency use, said Zhang.
Public transport stress tests in outer suburbs of Shanghai have been carried out. Districts like Jinshan, Fengxian and Chongming have gradually restored their bus routes, and taxis are gradually opening to traffic, said Zhang.
