(ECNS) -- Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, began to implement temporary "static management" in parts of the city starting from 8 a.m. on Wednesday,
Residents are required to work from home and stay indoors, with shops and other public venues shut down temporarily.
The move aims to curb the recent COVID-19 outbreak.
Six districts of the city will be under static management for five days since Wednesday. Those who do need to leave must hold the negative nucleic acid testing result taken within 24 hours.
Xinjiang has reported a total of 916 asymptomatic COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday.
