(ECNS) -- A total of 7,270 people in difficulties including 2,452 stranded travelers and migrant workers have been provided with basic living materials valuing 1.818 million yuan (about $265 thousand) since the latest outbreak of COVID-19 in Tibet Autonomous Region, said an official at a press conference on Wednesday.
Civil affairs departments at all levels in Tibet have issued social assistance service hotline 12349 to the public and assigned staff members to answer phone calls for help, said Niu Yuzhi, deputy director of the department of civil affairs of Tibet.
As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, 162,899 people have got one-off subsidies of about 50.34 million yuan from different levels of civil affairs departments, said Niu.
The region has rolled out measures to reduce or exempt rents for business operators since 2020, amounting to 764 million yuan, benefiting about 8,500 businesses in two or three rounds of rent preference, according to the press conference.
Tibet reported 37 local confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday.
