(ECNS) -- Unit 11 of Baihetan Hydropower Station started commercial operation on Wednesday after 72 hours of trial runs. It is the 14th unit to enter operation at the station.
This unit finished rotor hoisting work in September 2021 and started trial operation on Sunday.
Located on Jinsha River, the upper section of the Yangtze River in southwest China, Baihetan Hydropower Station is equipped with 16 hydro-generating units, each with a capacity of 1 million kilowatts, the largest single-unit capacity in the world.
The hydropower station will generate an average of more than 62.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year once fully operational, enough for the annual electricity consumption of approximately 75 million people.
