(ECNS) -- With the advent of ChatGPT, typical search engines will face huge challenges, said Chen Yunwen, CEO of Daguan Grand, an AI enterprise based in Shanghai.
Technologies created by OpenAI, developer of ChatGPT, help people summarize and analyze vast amounts of documents and web pages, threatening search engines, the CEO explained.
“Search engines make profits through clicks, but there will be no clicks because withan intelligent system like ChatGPT, people don’t need to open web pages to search information, thus having a significant impact on search engine business models,” said Chen.
“That's why ChatGPT’s being popular worldwide is significant toGoogle or Baidu. They must seize the commanding heights of technology development, or their business foundation will become unstable,” he added.
Insiders also said that as the language model represented by ChatGPT becomes mature, it will not only have an important impact on AI research, but also bring technological innovation to industries like integrated circuits and biomedicine.
However, people don’t need to worry too much about if we will be replaced by AI. AI technologies are widely used in the industrial and commercial fields, and learning and using them to assist our work is an overwhelming future trend.
Yan Junchi, a special research fellow with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Shanghai Jiaotong University, said humans must master AI-related technologies, like learning a foreign language, so as to make them serve people’s daily work needs.
“Besides feeling anxious, I think people should embrace AI technology and learn it,” said Yan.
ChatGPT is a powerful chatbot developed by OpenAI and launched in November 2022. Built on top of OpenAI's GPT-3 family of large language models, it engages in human-like dialogue egged by prompting.
