(ECNS) -- It is possible that China will achieve a GDP growth of six percent or even higher in 2023, given the optimistic general economic situation at present, said economic expert Yu Miaojie, who is also a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress and the president of Liaoning University.
The international community raised its expectations for China's economy this year. Yu pointed out that the International Monetary Fund revised China's 2023 growth outlook to 5.2 percent in February from a 4.4 percent forecast last October.
“But I think the 5.2 percent of growth forecast is conservative,” said Yu, adding that from the perspective of internal potential, the growth potential impeded last year, which is also the most essential supporting point to drive economic growth, will be fully released this year
“Affected by COVID-19, China has realized a GDP growth of three percent last year and one to two percent of growth potential has not been fully realized, and this year, the country’s economy has shown full vigor and vitality in the past month,” said Yu.
“Given the current economic situation, it is possible to achieve the one to two percent growth that was not fulfilled last year. With the growth forecast of five percent predicted, a six percent or even higher economic growth is possible,” Yu added.
