(ECNS) -- About 18,000 netizens encourage each other to cope with the challenges and pressure of life in a group on Douban, a Chinese social platform with many young followers.
Some young Chinese choose to embrace the “'Why try hard when you can just skate by?' mentality” to relieve the tension of a busy life. But they can’t let themselves “lie down” forever so they set up the group to cheer each other up, naming the group “Mutual help alliance for those who want to stand up after ‘lying down’”.
In the section "Ask the doctor", group members would typically enquire how to deal with negative emotions, make changes, establish good habits, and improve work efficiency. A netizen called Gehua received many replies after asking "Which books can help us ruturn to reality?"
The group leader suggested Gehua re-read the works he once liked and then expand to other books. Some netizens recommended many famous Chinese and foreign works, including The Razor’s Edge, The Plague, Ordinary World and Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind.
A netizen called Carpe Diem pointed out that books that can bring one’s soul short-term comfort would soon fail so the netizen advised people to read works with depth and that inspire.
“Since you are determined to change, don't feed your spirit with shallow and simple food,” Carpe Diem said. The netizen also recommended some books, such as Man’s Search for Meaning written by Viktor Frankl.
In the section of "I have a prescription", group members commonly share their methods to recover morale. For example, some people go to cafes, some practice Ba Duan Jin and Jin Gang Gong, two traditional Chinese physical cultivation techniques, some record their feelings to relieve anxiety and insomnia, while some organize their rooms or repair furniture.
Some posts have received many comments and been recommended by the group leader or administrators so that they can be seen by more people. These posts have also shown their ability of self-diagnosis, self-rescue, and their mutual-help spirit.
Most group members once “lay down” after feeling the pressure from school, work and interpersonal relationships, but finally tried to stand up, analyzing their problems and changing themselves.
