(ECNS) -- China’s express delivery industry has seen a steady recovery since the beginning of 2023, with the total volume amounting to 40 billion parcels as of May 4, said China’s State Post Bureau on Friday via its official WeChat account.
Official data shows that during the May Day holiday from April 29 to May 3, a total of 1.496 billion parcels had been received from customers nationwide. The average daily collection volume increased by 119.6 percent compared with the May Day holiday in 2019, and by 11.64 percent compared with the same period last year.
Meanwhile, a total of 1.599 billion parcels had been delivered during the five-day holiday. The average daily delivery volume increased by 144.59 percent compared with the same period of 2019, and by 8.78 percent compared with the May Day holiday last year.
About four million couriers remained at their posts during this May Day holiday. In Zibo, a city which became famous overnight in Shandong Province for its barbecue, express delivery enterprises have upgraded their services, for example, setting up more convenient stations for tourists and local residents, providing door-to-door parcel delivery, and improving cold chain packaging, to deliver famous local snacks and specialties to all parts of the country.
And in Guiyang, Guizhou Province, express companies cooperated with scenic spots, commercial streets, hotels, and transportation hubs, providing "buy-and-send" package services to help tourists travel with ease.
The express delivery industry has expanded channels for the sale of specialty products in China, allowing more and more famous products with local features, like seafood, home appliance, fruit, and furniture, to reach different cities nationwide.
With a series of policies to promote consumption and smooth logistics implemented, the express delivery sector in China has closely integrated with local industries, with its role in serving production, promoting consumption and smooth circulation becoming increasingly significant.
As more and more high-quality agricultural and local specialty products are delivered to all parts of the country, the express delivery network has become an important force to promote economic growth.
