(ECNS) -- Chen Jing, an overseas Chinese in Argentina, was granted with “Outstanding Cultural Contribution” award on Tuesday by the city council of Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina, for her contribution to cultural exchanges between both countries.
As chairman of Phoenix Dorada International Media Company and president of Argentine Federation of Women and Children, Chen has been committed to promoting Chinese culture in Argentina for many years.
The CHINO BASICO program, the first to teach Chinese and promote Chinese culture in Latin America jointly developed by Chen’s team and Metro TV in Argentina, has attracted more than one million viewers. It not only provides people a platform to learn Chinese, but also serves as a window for local people to learn about Chinese culture.
Supported by the Chinese Embassy in Argentina and municipal government of Buenos Aires, the Spring Festival temple fair hosted by Chen’s team has become a famous local festival activity and cultural brand over 15 consecutive years. Its scale, mass participation, and influence tops the list of the same type of activities held by overseas Chinese all over the world.
Argentine officials thought highly of Chen’s efforts in China-Argentina cultural exchanges. They said she enables Argentine people to learn about China's long history and splendid culture and hope she can give full play to her advantages and make more contributions to the development of cultural undertakings in China and Argentina.
Moreover, Chen has subsidized poor Argentine students in remote areas for a long time, further bringing closer the relationship between the Chinese and Argentine peoples.
Chen said spreading Chinese culture is a great career and is of particular special significance in foreign countries.
“Although I live in Argentina which is far away from the motherland, I will continue to devote myself to promoting our culture and cultural industries in Argentina, help local overseas Chinese integrate into local society, promote cultural exchanges between both countries, and make new contributions to China-Argentina relations,” said Chen.
