(ECNS) -- A graduate from Renmin University of China was arrested for stealing students’ information, the Public Security Bureau of Haidian District in Beijing announced on Monday.
According to the statement released by Haidian police, the graduate surnamed Ma, 25, is suspected of illegally obtaining personal student information and other illicit acts.
On Saturday, a Weibo user claimed a graduate of the university has obtained students’ information including their names, photos, ID numbers, birthplace and date of birth, and created a website so people could rate students' appearance based on their photos.
The post also claimed the student graduated from the university in 2019 with a master's degree in information technology and works at Tencent.
The university issued a statement on Sunday, saying that it is cooperating with a police investigation after it learned about the case.
The investigation is still underway, said the police.
