(ECNS) -- The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is considering more restrictions on imported food from Japan, said John Lee Ka-chiu, chief executive of the HKSAR, on Tuesday, local media outlet hk01 reported.
Hong Kong believes it is risky to discharge Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water into the ocean without a break and that the HKSAR government must ensure imported food safety, said John Lee in a meeting with media.
The HKSAR government will ban more seafood imports from Japan and conduct further inspections once Japan starts to discharge nuclear-contaminated water, he said.
Nuclear radiation may take several years to have a real impact on people or affect the next generation, he noted.
