Convicted driver executed for deliberate car rampage, manslaughter

(ECNS)-- The Intermediate People's Court of Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, applied the death penalty to Wen Qingyun in accordance with the execution order issued by the Supreme People's Court.

Wen, driven by personal emotions, deliberately crashed into pedestrians in Guangzhou's Tianhe District at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Jan. 11, 2023, resulting in five deaths and 13 injuries.

The court sentenced him to death in the first trial on April 18, 2023, for endangering public safety through dangerous means and deprived her of political rights for life.

Following Wen's appeal, the Higher People's Court of Guangdong Province conducted a legal hearing, rejected the appeal, upheld the original verdict, and duly submitted it for approval to the Supreme People's Court.
