(ECNS) -- The volume and turnover of China's rail freight rank first in the world, with cargo volume exceeding that of the United States and Russia combined, ranked second and third.
China’s railways transported 332 million metric tons of cargo in June, with a freight turnover of 266.5 billion metric ton-kilometers, up 6.1 percent and 5.3 percent year on year respectively, China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. on its official WeChat account.
The country transported oil, fertilizers and pesticides, flood relief and other necessities nationally, opening green channels to ensure efficient delivery.
In June, national rail shipments of oil, fertilizers, and pesticides grew 4.0 percent and 26.2 percent year-on-year respectively.
Besides, China takes advantage of 40 railway logistics centers, expanding the supply of cargo. In June, national rail shipments of containers, automobiles and cold-chain cargo increased 18.0 percent, 12.1 percent and 21.2 percent year-on-year respectively, setting record highs for the same period.
More cross-border cargo has been transported through international railway networks. The China-Europe freight train service recorded 1,719 trips in June and shipped 180,000 containers, up 15 percent and 11 percent year-on-year respectively. The China-Laos Railway transported 2.783 million metric tons of goods in June, up 20.7 percent year-on-year.
China has been positively exploring market-oriented systems, providing tailored transportation programs for customers to reduce logistics costs. Since the beginning of this year, 12 special railways have been built and 149 are under construction.
