(ECNS) -- Twenty-one Tibetan children with congenital heart disease have received free medical treatment at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University in Jiangsu Province this year thanks to a joint medical aid operation.
The project was launched by Amdo County Health and Health Commission, the General Hospital of Eastern Theater Command, the People's Hospital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, and the People's Hospital of Nagqu in June 2024.
It has screened over 2,000 children and teenagers under 18 in Amdo County, among whom 21 met the surgical indications and funding conditions.
All medical expenses as well as travelling and accommodation expenses were paid by the national medical assistance fund for children with congenital heart disease.
Amdo County, with an average elevation of 5,200 meters, is a high-risk area of congenital heart disease in Tibet.
