(ECNS) -- China is a robust market and China International Import Expo (CIIE) gives Siemens Mobility the chance to further develop partnerships with all the partners that we have here in the country, said Juergen Model, CEO of Siemens Mobility Greater China, in an exclusive interview with China News Network.
Siemens has been a deep participant and witness of the Chinese economy since entering the Chinese market over a century ago. Siemens’s participation in the Expo for the seventh consecutive year demonstrates its deep commitment and confidence in the Chinese market. Siemens Mobility, with localization, digital innovation and sustainability as its core strategies in Greater China, is committed to providing customers with high-quality rolling stock and products, signaling systems and other products for mainline and mass transit, rail electrification, and rail services.
Siemens Mobility has been in China for more than 120 years since it supplied China’s first electric tram in 1899. Established in Germany, the enterprise has grown into a localized Chinese company, with its endeavor ranging from R&D, manufacturing, engineering to supply chain, all completely localized in China, according to Model.
In Model’s view, people can see the development of various industries in China as well as the Chinese society through the CIIE. Siemens Mobility values the opportunity, through which it can demonstrate products, solutions and technology innovations, and also exchange with counterparts in the industry.
Rooted in the Chinese market for years, the enterprise is particularly concerned about China's economic policies. Talking about the incremental policy package launched by China, Model believed that the Chinese government carefully follows the development of the technology market and also in the macro economy, and had taken timely steps to further improve the domestic economic situation.
“What we see is that there are some really helpful and useful measures that the government took,” he said, citing the example of the five-year action plan on deepening the people-centered new urbanization strategy launched by the Chinese government in 2024 which aims to fully unleash the huge potential of domestic demand.
According to Model, such an action plan will help promote the mobility of human resources and boost the high-quality development of China's economy. “This is exactly where we see our strength to participate in this development, providing the products and solutions that meet the needs of the domestic market to improve the situation,” he said.
“China is the second largest economy in the world. It's a robust market.”
In addition, he also introduced Siemens’ efforts in sustainable development. “We are very happy about the sustainable development in China and we have very similar targets.”
According to him, Siemens plans to achieve carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2030 and supply chain carbon neutrality by 2050, driving the company's continuous progress in environmental protection and social responsibility. Currently, several Siemens Mobility factories have been successfully recognized as national green factories.
“We are very happy that we have reached quite some targets of the green certification of factories in China. We will further work on that,” he said.
At the Expo, Siemens also presented some of its Chinese partners from metallurgy, chemical industry, environmental protection technology and other industries with “Zero Carbon Pioneer Award”, aiming to create a green ecosystem with upstream and downstream partners to contribute to China's sustainable development strategy.
“We have made this with a long-term target to constantly develop the business and our footprint in the country. And we will also continue to focus exactly on our strength to provide technology to the market and to help our customers in their digital transformation,” Model said.
