An exhibition "Mexico′s Silver: History and Future" opened in the Ledao Tang Gallery at the Museum of Prince Kung′s Mansion, a traditional residence compound dating to the Qing Dynasty on Thursday.

Featured are 152 works from the Arocena Museum, in the northern city of Torreon, in the state of Coauhuila, Mexico, and the TANE Collection, a contemporary jewelry firm.

The works from the Arocena collection belong to the vice regal period (1521-1810) and include objects used in the catholic liturgy. The collection is famous for its high quality silversmithing and is one of the most important in Mexico.

The TANE collection includes objects and contemporary jewelry designs by artists such as Juan Soriano, Gunther Gerzso, Gerda Gruber, Luis Barragan and Leonora Carrington.

"Mexico′s Silver: History and Future" is coordinated by the Mexican Agency of International Cooperation for Development of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Its presentation in Beijing is the result of a collaboration between the Embassy of Mexico, the Arocena Museum and the Museum of Prince Kung′s Mansion with the support of the Ministry of Culture of China.

This exhibition was previously shown at the Long Museum in Shanghai, where it was opened by the President of Mexico. After Beijing, the exhibition will go to Guangzhou.

It is also part of activities marking the "Year of Mexico′s tourism in China" and together with other shows held in Beijing "Diego Rivera: Pride of Mexico", "Mayas: The Language of Beauty" and "The body as a Landscape" of sculptor Jorge Marin, are part of an effort to bring Mexican art closer to Chinese audiences.

This exhibition will run until May 20. Once you buy a ticket of the Museum of Prince Kung′s Mansion, you can go to the exhibition for free.
