Moving listeners to tears
Compared to Benji and Cao Cao, the Nigerian-born singer Hao Ge is probably more eye-catching with his black skin and charming voice.
Resembling the football star George Weah, Hao Ge, or Uwechue Emmanuel, is praised as an African who can move people to tears with Chinese songs.
He rose to fame through a performance on the New Year's Gala and has emerged as one of the most notable foreign singers in China.
Hao Ge first came to China in 2002 knowing almost nothing about the country, except Chairman Mao.
However, the lucky guy got a chance to meet Liu Huan, a famous singer and producer, in 2003, and more surprisingly, became a singer in Liu's company three years later.
Hao Ge first surprised the Chinese in 2006 when he took part in a singing competition held by the China Central Television (CCTV) and claimed second place.
"He has an amazing voice," said Bi Fujian, MC of the competition, adding that "Hao Ge rendered many classical Chinese songs more beautifully than local singers."
Hao Ge said he is totally in love with China and will never want to leave. "Beijing is like my hometown, very comfortable and nice."
Now, in addition to Chinese songs, Hao Ge is also learning the Peking Opera and paper cutting in a bid to further deepen his understanding of Chinese culture.
