Two other heroes jumped into the water to save the lives of others, but unfortunately sacrificed their own.

On August 15, 69-year-old He Xiaonv from Henan Province had successfully saved three children from a local river, yet drowned along with the fourth child as she was trying to drag him out of the water.

Thousands of farmers from the nearby village attended He's funeral to show their respect.

Four days ago before He's heroic death, another elderly individual drowned in Zhejiang Province while carrying a 12-year-old ashore at a reservoir.

According to the drowning boy's father, the 65-year-old Zhan Zuyi quickly jumped into the water when heard the family screaming for help to rescue their son, despite so many onlookers who looked far younger and stronger than himself.

Zhan was swallowed by the swift current the second after he got the boy to safety.

9) "Brother Fireman"

In the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in south China, a fireman who rescued a suffocating kid by using his own gas mask won the nickname of "Brother Fireman," according to local news media on May 25.

After giving up his own mask, the fireman named Tan Xialin underwent great difficulties breathing, so he leaned out a window on fire to get some air, which was shot by a passerby.

This video earned Tan a large number of admiring fans.

10) Bone marrow donator doesn't want to be remembered

Four months ago, a sophomore from Hubei abandoned his final exams and hurried to Beijing to donate his bone marrow after receiving notice from the China Marrow Donor Program (CMDP).

His timely offer helped a 12-year-old leukemia patient from Shanghai. After returning to school, the college student was received by people lining the street to welcome him.

However, the young man declined all media interviews, claiming he didn't want to be remembered.
