In the past 22 years, Liu Xianghuan has created numerous exquisite pressed flower artworks, some of which have won national and international awards.
Liu, 57, a teacher from Northeast Forestry University, started her study on pressed flower art in 1996 when she tried to retain the color of a fallen leave via mineral acid occasionally.

“At that time, I was a teacher of the chemistry department,” she said. “The chemical reagent made the leave as green as a fresh one.”
Her attempt also attracted the attention from the university’s garden plant laboratory that started the study of pressed flower technology in 1995.
