Built in 1419, Sera Monastery is a prestigious monastery of Tibetan Buddhism's Gelug Sect. Founded in 1419, the Sera Monastery is now a renowned place of learning, which trained hundreds of scholars who attained name and fame in the Buddhist nations.
The monastery was named Sera which means wild rose in the Tibetan language, because the hill behind it was covered with wild roses in bloom when it was built.
