The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. Awakening of Insects falls on March 6th this year. This solar term signals a rise in temperature and increased rainfall. As the third solar term in the lunar year, its name alludes to the fact that animals sleeping in winter are awakened by spring thunder and the earth begins to come back to life. The sound of spring thunder drums can be heard in the murals of the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang.
With horses trampling on new branches and flowers about to bloom, let's enjoy the arrival of spring!
