Procrastination identifies the reasons we put off tasks - fears of failure, control, separation, and attachment that root in our childhood and adult experiences. Besides our fears, the Internet also "give a hand" to make us more like a procrastinator.
Procrastination is increasing all over the world, thanks to the Internet. With such easy access, one can always surf the Internet to kill time – which is obviously easier than doing any work, according to Jane.B.Burka, who wrote a book discussing about procrastination.
Procrastination has become a common problem for modern people. On the social networking website Douban.com, 90,000 registered users belong to a group dedicated to overcoming procrastination. They've even formed their own website to help themselves and other people combat the problem.
Types of procrastinators
Everything is subject to procrastination. Writing a letter to a friend can be delayed for a month; finishing a work project is likely to be put off till the last minute; even going out with friends can fall prey to procrastination.
Procrastinators often know they have a problem, and will sometimes analyze the reasons and ask for help. Here are three types of procrastinators:
1) Procrastinators looking for comfort. "I have wasted a day when I am supposed to finish my essay, please help me," wrote an Internet user. There are many who like to post their complaints on the Internet, but they may not really want help. What they want most is comfort.
2) Procrastinators looking for "whips". "I am drained and I need someone to whip me forward," said another netizen. These can often be seen at night. People who post these words hope to find people to cheer them up.
3) Some like to post their anti-procrastination records on the Internet, marking their progress as they fight the "fever".
Overcoming the problem rationally
Only when you understand your problems and weaknesses can you overcome them. If there are choices in front of you, you must decide what is the highest priority. Finish the most important thing first, and leave the others behind according to their importance.
People who are more efficient and achieve more are not necessarily smarter, but they have stronger willpower.
Everyone needs a driving force to push them forward. Once you have it, you will finish work and assignments on time.
