(Ecns.cn) -- Users of China's three telecom giants – China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom – will get access to free high-speed WiFi services through mobile phones, laptops or tablet PCs at seven hot spots throughout the city, starting from the end of November the earliest, the Beijing Daily reported.
The operators will provide 2Mbps public wideband services at Xidan, Wangfujing, the Olympic Center, three major train stations, the Financial Street, Yansha and Zhongguancun.
By searching for the wireless named "My Beijing," users can log in with their mobile phone numbers and then a password, valid for three hours, will be sent to them via a short message.
This year, the municipal government aims to build a total of 90,000 wireless wireless local area network (WLAN) access points, which would cover most of down town areas and hi-tech parks, an official from the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology said.
On route to be a wireless city
The municipal government will invest heavily on large WLAN construction projects, and targets a coverage rate of more than 60% over the next five years, according to Beijing's current five-year plan on urban informatization and information infrastructure projects.
Beijing is trying to build the world's leading third generation (3G) wireless networks to achieve full coverage of communication networks, broadcasting networks and government information networks will be available on existing subways, paving the way for the fourth generation (4G) system.
By then, WLAN services will fully cover public spaces, including airports, train stations, hi-end business centers, star hotels, schools, traffic junctions, as well as public transpirations, says the five-year plan.
Wireless services at the most populated public spaces will be paid by the municipal government.
