(Ecns.cn)--Tea is good in too many ways to count. Despite the obvious benefits it brings to certain people, it can also harm others under certain conditions.
Below are conditions under which you should decline tea, however inviting it seems.
1.Patients running a fever should stay away from tea. The theophylline that tea contains commonly raises the body temperature and reduces the efficacy of medicines.
2. People suffering from constipation should not drink tea either, for it contains polyhenols that change gastrointestinal mucosa, and thus makes bowel movement more difficult.
3. Those suffering from a liver dysfunction are forbidden to drink tea. The caffeine load carried in tea depends heavily on the liver to metabolize. Excessive tea drinking requires an already overburdened liver to handle extra work.
4. Sufferers of neurasthenia, or insomnia, should stop taking tea altogether. Caffeine rich tea makes it even harder for the sleep-deprived patient to get any rest. In the worse cases, the resulting brain stimulation actually brings on chronic insomnia. However, they may be able to tolerate herbal tea in the day time.
5. People suffering from iron deficiency anemia should also stay as far away as possible from tea. The tannic acid in tea actually interrupts the absorption of iron in the human body.
6. The bad news for pregnant tea drinkers is that both the theophylline and the caffeine interfere with the development of intellectual capacity to the fetus. Expectant mothers should drink as little tea as possible. Breast-feeding mothers are also cautioned to abstain since tea may over-stimulate the fragile nerves of the baby.
7. Tea also brings harm to sufferers of calcium deficiency or fractures, as its alkaloid constituents inhibit the absorption of calcium. Regular drinkers of tea are vulnerable to calcium deficiency as a result.
