China-Europe freight train service records 100,000 trips

(ECNS) -- With the departure of the X8083 China-Europe freight train (Chongqing - Duisburg) from Tuanjie Village Station, the number of associated trips reached 100,000on Friday, marking a significant milestone.

Since its launch in 2013, the China-Europe freight train service has transported over 11 million TEUs of goods, valued at more than $420 billion.

So far, China has schedule 93 China-Europe freight routes with a speed of 120 kilometers per hour, linking 125 cities across the county. The network of freight trains has expanded to 227 cities in 25 European countries and over 100 cities in 11 Asian countries.

The annual number of freight trips surged tenfold from 1,702 to over 17,000 from 2016 to 2023.Its operational efficiency has significantly improved, with the time needed for 10,000 trips shortened from 90 months to just 6 months. Since March this year, the monthly number of China-Europe freight train trips has exceeded 1,600 for eight consecutive months.

The annual value of goods transported by the service increased dramatically from$8 billion in 2016 to $56.7 billion in 2023, and $58 billion in 2024.The variety of goods transported has expanded to over 53 major categories and more than 50,000 types, with an increasing proportion of high-tech and high-value-added products each year.
