Malaysia welcomes autonomous rail rapid transit vehicles from China

(ECNS) -- Malaysia's Sarawak state plans to purchase 38 Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (ART) vehicles from China, the state announced on Monday.

The ART vehicles will help relieve traffic jams in Kuching, said Sarawak officials at the award ceremony of the bid-winning notice for the Kuching Urban Transportation System.

The ART developed by CRRC Zhuzhou is an innovative and intelligent rail transit system that integrates the advantages of rail transit and public transport.

With its original independent guidance and track-following technology, it features low cost, short construction periods, adaptability, and flexible operation and dispatch.

It is also low carbon and environmentally friendly.

The Sarawak state also said that it hopes to strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation with China.
