(ECNS) -- The Food Safety Commission Office under China's State Council announced on Tuesday that it had established a joint investigation team to look into the reported alleged use of fuel tanker trucks in the transportation of edible oil.

A special meeting, involving the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Transport, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, was convened to investigate the allegations thoroughly, state broadcaster CCTV reported.

“Illegal enterprises and relevant responsible persons will be severely punished in accordance with the law and will not be tolerated,” it said.

Last week, Beijing News reported that Sinograin's fuel tankers transported food products such as cooking oil, soybean oil, and syrup without cleaning the tankers between uses, describing the issue as an "open secret" in the transport industry. CCTV called it "tantamount to poisoning," despite Sinograin's statement that it had initiated an investigation into its transportation carriers.
