Gross revenue of Black Myth: Wukong exceeds $961 mln
(ESNS) -- Latest data released on Friday by VG Insights, a video game market research platform, showed that the gross revenue of Chinese game Black Myth: Wukong has exceeded 6.7 billion yuan (about $961 million), with 20 million units of copies sold.
Black Myth: Wukong, a one-time purchase AAA game developed by Game Science, was launched on August 20.
Huatai Securities predicted that the game's annual sales are expected to reach 30 to 40 million copies, with a total revenue may reaching 10 to 14 billion yuan.
The game was also released on WeGame, PlayStation, and Epic Games Store.
On the evening of August 23, three days after the release of the game, its developer said that it had sold over 10 million units across all platforms.
Compared with other AAA games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Eldenfalcon, Black Myth: Wukong performs better in sales. For example, Cyberpunk 2077 sold 13 million copies in its two weeks of all-platform release, and Eldenfalcon, 12 million.
According to VG Insights, the concurrent players peaked at 574,000 in the past 24 hours on Steam. And this figure reached 2.41 million on the night of August 22, the highest since its release, second only to Survival of the Jedi.
The game has achieved a remarkable 96 percent approval rating on Steam, and the average game time of players is 38.4 hours.
Players showed huge interest in the music with national characteristics.
The game's development team visited several scenic spots in North China's Shanxi Province, incorporating many elements of painted sculptures.
Shanxi culture and tourism authority recently released an official promotional video for the game, showcasing real locations where the game got inspirations, including Xiaoxitian (Small Western Paradise), Yuhuang Temple, and Tiefo Monastery, attracting many bloggers to visit these sites as part of a "cultural pilgrimage."
Wu Dan, an investor of Game Science, confirmed that Black Myth: Wukong DLC (Downloadable Content) is in full swing, which will bring better experience to players.
