China's National Day holiday witnesses over 2 billion passenger trips

(ECNS) -- Preliminary statistics from the Ministry of Transport show that during China’s week-long National Day holiday, the total cross-regional passenger trips reached 2.008 billion, with a daily average increase of 4.1 percent compared to the same period last year.

As the holiday concluded on Monday, the railways across the country were expected to transport 19.86 million passengers, with 1,705 additional trains scheduled.

Since the start of the holiday transportation period on Sept. 29, daily passenger traffic on the railways exceeded 17 million for seven consecutive days, with a record high on October 1.

During the holiday, the highways witnessed about 1.85 billion passenger trips, with a daily average increase of 3.9 percent year-on-year. More than 80 percent of travelers opted for self-driving trips.

In the aviation sector, the total number of passengers during the holiday reached approximately 16.12 million, with a daily average of 2.303 million, marking an 11.3 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.
