(ECNS) -- The Philippine Qi Huang Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) Institute, the first TCM college in the Philippines, held its inaugural graduation ceremony in Manila on Wednesday, with 12 graduates receiving qualifications in TCM-related practices.

Executive Dean Zheng Qiming said that among the graduates, seven received TCM practitioner qualifications, three were certified in acupuncture, and two received qualifications in herbal medicine dispensing.

Zhou Zhiyong, Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines, attended the ceremony and warmly congratulated the graduates.

He highlighted that TCM holds unique advantages in disease prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, calling it a valuable treasure of Chinese civilization.

Zhou expressed hope that the graduates would use their expertise in TCM to contribute to the health and well-being of the Filipino people.

The Philippine Qi Huang TCM Institute was established by the China-Philippines Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine and officially opened in October 2021. As the training base for Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine's "TCM Going Global" initiative in the Philippines, the college adopts a joint teaching approach with instructors from both China and the Philippines.

Its goal is to train local practitioners, acupuncturists, and herbal medicine dispensers who meet the standards of the Philippines' TCM guidelines through a structured program of three to five years of courses and work experience.
