China, EU should address disputes, trade frictions via dialogue: CCPIT

(ECNS) -- China and the European Union should address disputes and frictions through dialogue and negotiations to reach a solution that meets the common interests of both parties and is consistent with WTO rules, a spokesperson for China Council for the Promotions of International Trade (CCPIT) said Thursday.

Sun Xiao, a CCPIT spokesperson, made the remarks at a press conference responding to the EU’s tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.

The European Commission, the EU’s executive arm, announced Wednesday it would impose anti-subsidy tariffs ranging from 7.8 percent to 35.3 percent on electric vehicles imported from China.

China's business community, especially its electric vehicle industry, is highly concerned about this, and expresses deep regret and resolute opposition to the final ruling issued by the European side, said Sun.

“We’ve been consistently adhering to our position, hoping that China and the EU will draw closer in countering trade protectionism, and jointly promoting the healthy and stable development of China-EU economic and trade relations, economy,” said the spokesperson.
