BWF changes medical aid rules after unexpected death of Chinese badminton player
(ECNS) -- Badminton World Federation (BWF) revised several competition rules with a significant change regarding medical emergencies in a meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
According to the new rules the BWF released on Friday, medical personnel are now allowed to enter the court without the direction of the referee in cases of suspected cardiac arrest or suspected concussion with blackout.
“The BWF remains committed to protecting the health and wellbeing of all players and have begun a process to consider possible additional first aid protocols and tools to implement at tournaments, plus guidelines for first aid education of tournament personnel,” it said.
It also encourages all members to conduct regular health monitoring of players in their high-performance structures as a proactive preventative measure.
