ECNS) -- Well-known Chinese cosmetic brand Pechoin denied illegal use of banned ingredients on Wednesday morning following an investigation decision made by the Shanghai Municipal Drug Administration.

On the same day, the drug administration published its investigation result, clarifying that Pechoin didn’t violate regulations on cosmetics supervision and administration or use prohibited materials.

According to the statement released by Pechoin, the prohibited material, round-leaved petunia extract, has been banned from use in cosmetics by the State Drug Administration since May 26, 2021. Its face cleansing cream that used such ingredient was produced prior to the date, not violating the then provisions related to cosmetic ingredients.

Pechoin said it has adjusted the formula of the product and filed it with the relevant drug administration departments.

Shanghai Municipal Drug Administration explained that its previous response to the whistleblower was based on both the content of the report and the results of the verification, and that the report is true does not mean Pechoin violates the law.

Carrying out an investigation does not necessarily mean that Pechoin has violated the law, the drug administration added.

Pechoin’s on-sale facial cleanser is an upgraded version, which does not contain round-leaved petunia extract, according to the ingredients of the product.
