(ECNS) -- Scientists from the National University of Science and Technology in Russia and China University of Mining & Technology, Beijing, have developed a new composite compound that maintains its mechanical properties even at extremely cold temperatures of minus 150 degrees Celsius.

The research team synthesized this laminar composite from metal and metallic glass compounds. It can remain resistant to brittle fracture at extremely low temperatures.

The composite material is readily accessible and easy to process and modify. Its manufacture relies on traditional welding methods for materials with different composition.

According to researchers, the material can be used to produce machine components and structures operating in low or extreme cold temperature. It has broad applications in aerospace, low-temperature industry, and polar exploration.

In the future, the research team plans to further improve the manufacturing process of the composite material and optimize its composition to enhance mechanical strength and radiation resistance in low-temperature environments.
