(ECNS) -- China has led the development of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) tourism standard: ISO 14785:2024 - Tourism and related services - Tourist information services - Requirements and recommendations, according to China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) in Beijing on Thursday.

Published on Nov. 13, the document outlines minimum quality requirements and recommendations for onsite tourist information services located at the destination, online tourist information services or both, according to the ISO website.

Fang Lin, lead drafter of the standard, explained that it sets out global guidelines for the scope, content, and quality of tourism information services, enabling travelers to access information through online and offline channels and receive better, more welcoming service.

Liu Dongyan, deputy director of MCT’s Science, Education and Technology Department, stated that the release of the standard is a major breakthrough, providing Chinese experience in streamlining service procedures, improving management, and enhancing the inbound tourism environment.

The new standard has already been adopted by countries such as Spain, the UK, and South Africa, demonstrating its strong applicability. As more countries follow suit, tourists will be able to enjoy unified, standardized information services no matter where they travel around the world.
