China records 19,000th bone marrow donor
(ECNS) -- A woman from northwest China’s Gansu Province became the country's 19,000th bone marrow stem cell donor on Friday, according to China Marrow Donor Program (CMDP).
The woman surnamed Fu hoped to encourage more people to help patients with blood diseases like leukemia through hematopoietic stem cell donations.
Data from the organization showed that the reservoir of voluntary hematopoietic stem cell donors reached 3.489 million copies, and that the volume of donations had achieved a breakthrough from 17,000 to 19,000 cases in 10 months.
Since the launch of the non-blood-related hematopoietic stem cell donation program, it has attracted a lot of volunteers, with the number of donors rising year by year.
According to the CMDP, it has established a giant voluntary service network consisting of more than 300 volunteer teams around the country and over 100,000 volunteers in registry.
In addition, before donation, a donor receives injections to stimulate the growth of blood stem cells.
