China-built, energy-saving ro-ro cargo vessel boasts near 50% cut in emissions
(ECNS) -- The world’s leading environmentally-friendly roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) cargo vessel has been delivered and set sail from Yangzhou City, east China’s Jiangsu Province on Sunday.
The “ECO SALERNO” was built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. for Italian shipping giant Grimaldi Group.
It is the 13th hybrid ro-ro vessel in Grimaldi Group's fifth-generation green series (GG5G). Designed for short-sea shipping, it boasts over 7,800 meters of vehicle lanes, accommodating approximately 500 trailers.
Compared to earlier ro-ro vessels, this ship achieves at least a 50 percent reduction in carbon emissions while possessing exceptional energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and highly flexible, efficient cargo handling.
The Yangzhou maritime authority has provided meticulous support throughout all phases of ship construction, including launching, sea trials, and delivery, achieving “zero delays” for new vessel deployment.
