Hong Kong made its first-ever discovery of suspected dinosaur fossils at Port Island on Oct. 23.

The DEVB invited experts from the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology (IVPP) to analyze the fossilized rocks, confirming the remains to be that of dinosaurs, preliminarily dated to the Cretaceous period.

A spokesperson for DEVB said the Hong Kong government will work with IVPP and experts from other regions to identify the species found on Port Island, and study the ancient ecological landscape.

A temporary workshop at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre is set to open next Friday, providing visitors with an opportunity to witness fossil restoration in action.
