(ECNS) -- China has discovered over 20 million metric tons of copper resources on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, the highest plateau in the world, according to the China Geological Survey.

Four major copper resource bases have been established on the plateau: Yulong, Duolong, Julong-Jiama, and Xiongcun-Zhunuo, each with over 10 million metric tons of copper reserves. The estimated copper potential reaches 150 million metric tons, positioning the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau as a prospective world-class copper resource hub.

Tang Juxing, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, told CCTV that China’s technological innovation, driven by deep earth exploration, is boosting copper mine exploration.

According to Tang, China will explore copper resources in regions such as Zhejiang Province, Fujian Province, and Guangdong Province, as well as the Altay areas.

He mentioned that copper is especially vital in the development and utilization of green energy, such as solar power and onshore wind power. Exploration and expansion of copper reserves play a crucial role in building important resource bases and ensure the security of China’s copper industry chain and supply chain.
