6.8-magnitude quake hits Xigaze in SW China's Xizang: CENC

(ECNS) -- A 6.8-magnitude earthquake jolted Dingri County in Xigaze, southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, at 9:05 a.m. Tuesday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The epicenter was monitored at 28.5 degrees north latitude and 87.45 degrees east longitude. The quake struck at a depth of 10 km, the CENC said in a report.

A total of 29 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or higher have been recorded within 200 kilometers of the epicenter in the past five years and this one is the most serious one, according to the CENC.
