Xizang mourns victims after 6.8-magnitude earthquake

(ECNS) -- Mourning activities were held in Xigaze City, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, on 9:30 a.m. Monday in tribute to the victims of a 6.8-magnitude earthquake that jolted the region last Tuesday.

Local counties including Dingri, Lhatse, and Dingjie launched an array of commemorative activities.

A total of 126 people have been confirmed dead and 188 others injured in the disaster. Moreover, the earthquake affected about 61,500 people across 26 townships in five counties, damaging 27,248 houses, including 3,612 that collapsed.

Currently, 407 people have been rescued and more than 47,500 people have been resettled. Earthquake relief continues in order to ensure the winter life of quake-affected people.
