(ECNS) -- Thirteen topside modules for the 400,000-metric ton P79 Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) project, built for Brazilian petroleum corporation Petrobras, have been completed and delivered at the Qingdao International High-end Equipment Manufacturing Base, east China's Shandong Province, according to the Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC) on Sunday.

This marks another breakthrough in China’s high-end manufacturing capabilities of marine energy equipment.

The P79 FPSO measures 345.3 meters in length, 60 meters in width, and has a maximum displacement of 400,000 metric tons, making it one of the largest FPSOs in the world.

It will serve the giant deepwater Buzios oilfield in Brazil’s Santos Basin, operating at a water depth of over 2,000 meters.

COOEC is responsible for the design, procurement, construction, and installation of 13 key compressor modules for the vessel. Composed of more than 320,000 structural elements, these modules weigh nearly 30,000 metric tons, equivalent to over 23,000 small cars. The project also involves installing 153 large mechanical devices and laying 300,000 meters of cable.

According to Shao Ran, deputy manager of the P79 FPSO project, the placement precision of static equipment was maintained within 1 millimeter, meeting world-class precision standards. The project also recorded an impressive safety milestone of 12 million safe working hours.

FPSOs are widely used in offshore oil and gas field development. With their complex structures, they integrate oil extraction, processing, storage, export, as well as crew accommodation and production command systems, making them a quintessential example of high-end marine equipment.
