Gansu's Liujiaxia hydropower station on the Yellow River, which was named a national industrial heritage site in 2018, has passed a five-year review to retain its status.

The program identifies sites of high industrial and cultural value in the country.

Built in 1958, the Liujiaxia station was China's largest hydroelectric project at the time. The station was added to the heritage registry in 2018 for its industrial importance and well-maintained infrastructure.

In June, a team from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology re-evaluated several heritage sites and found that the Liujiaxia station's historical integrity has been preserved and visitor experiences have been improved. Notable additions include an underground exhibition hall featuring unique content and interactive virtual reality digital displays.

A hydropower industrial heritage theme park is in the works to display Yellow River culture, hydroelectric ecology, educational resources and historic artifacts. It is designed to raise public awareness about the ecological protection of the Yellow River.
