(ECNS) -- Northeast China’s Heilongjiang Forestry and Grassland Administration held a meeting on the protection of Siberian tigers and the improvement of response capabilities in managing conflicts between humans and wildlife on Wednesday.

The move followed an incident in which a Siberian tiger injured a villager in Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province.

The administration has outlined clear emergency response procedures for Siberian tiger. It will intensify efforts to track tiger movements, setting monitoring zones where tigers are active.

Besides, personnel will be stationed at villages, forests, and mountain entrances around the clock, while medical teams and ambulances remain on standby to provide immediate assistance.

A wild Siberian tiger attempted to attack a man by ramming the big iron gate of his farmhouse at around 6:10 a.m. on Monday in Changtai Village, Heilongjiang Province.

A neighboring household with cattle reported that their livestock was attacked. Local authorities and police quickly arrived on the scene.

The incident occurred about 200 kilometers from the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park. According to a relevant guideline, verified injuries caused by wild Siberian tigers could be covered by appropriate economic compensation.

According to a wildlife expert, tigers enter their breeding period from mid-November to February, with cubs born in spring. During this time, wandering male tigers are especially active as they search for mates, which makes them more likely to come across humans.
