Legoland Shanghai Resort starts construction of world's first 'Monkie Kid' subzone
(ECNS) -- The Shanghai LEGO paradise resort project held a ground-breaking ceremony in Fengjing Town, Jinshan District on Wednesday. Covering 31.8 ha, this parent-child wonderland is expected to open in 2024.
Construction plans for eight subzones were unveiled. Legoland HQ, Brick Street, Bricktopia... the subzones replicate other Legoland classics and popular rides around the world.
Among them, the "Monkie Kid" subzone is the first IP originated from Chinese traditional stories and is inspired by the classic Journey to the West. The new hero pays tribute to its namesake character Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, to exemplify courage and friendship to kids, and cultivate their imagination and creativity.
Apart from Chinese culture, the resort will further highlight the characteristics of Shanghai and elements of Jiangnan, as well as the lower reaches of Yangtze River. There will be Lego buildings of the Bund, People's Square, Oriental Pearl Tower and other landmarks from across Shanghai. Tourists can also sit on a Jiangnan-style boat and tour the resort.
