(ECNS) -- The "Hong Kong Health Code" system will open for registration from Dec. 10, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government said on Thursday.

The system will facilitate quarantine-free travel between Guangdong, Macao and Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Health Code has two important functions: making sure if users are high-risk individuals or have lived in or been to high-risk areas. Applicants are required to register personal information such as real names, residential addresses, visitation records, etc., said Alfred Sit Wing-hang, the Secretary for Innovation and Technology Bureau of HKSAR.

Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. local time. The "LeaveHomeSafe" mobile app 3.0 version will also be available for applicants to upload related information, Alfred Sit Wing-hang added.

The system will issue users their own Red, Amber or Green "Hong Kong Health Code" depending on their residential addresses and visitation records in the past 21 days.

People with a Green Hong Kong Health Code (valid for the day) who can fulfill other specific criteria can apply for code conversion to the "Yuekang Code" (Health Code of Guangdong) or the "Macao Health Code."

The HKSAR government is mobilizing employees to help citizens apply for the "Hong Kong Health Code."
