(100 great changes ) Shibadong Village: the 'Gorgeous Turn' of a Miao Village
(ECNS) -- Over the past ten years, targeted poverty alleviation has turned a poor village into a model of poverty alleviation, creating a miracle in the development history of Miao villages in Western Hunan Province.
On February 25, 2021, Shibadong Village was awarded the honorary title of "National Model" at the National Poverty Alleviation Commendation Conference.
Shibadong Village lies in the hinterland of the Wuling Mountains. Ten years ago, it was an impoverished and backward village, short of water, transportation and farmland. In 2013, the incidence of poverty here was up to 57%. The problem of poverty was entrenched and long-standing.
In the face of many challenges, the Poverty Alleviation Task Working Group took action. They took advantage of local resources in Shibadong Village and tailored assistance measures for the poor villagers, including beekeeping, embroidery, and agritourism, boosting the rapid development of rural characteristic industries.
In less than four years, Shibadong Village was lifted out of poverty. In 2020, the annual income of the village reached 2 million yuan (about 276,000 U.S. dollars); In 2021, the per capita annual net income increased from 1,668 yuan in 2013 to 20,167 yuan (about 2,780 U.S. dollars). Young people began to return hometown to start their own businesses, as a result, e-commerce, homestay and other new businesses began to boom.
Today, Shibadong Village has taken up the baton of rural revitalization and is forging ahead on the road to prosperity.
