(ECNS)-- Fuling District in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality has utilized its rich herbal resources and adopted digital technology to target the global market for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

The district effectively utilizes 93,000 hectares of forest land to cultivate over 3,000 medicinal herbs. At the same time, it has developed digital technology, incorporating automated production systems to enhance efficiency.

Fuling has established a cutting-edge smart TCM factory and four digital workshops as of 2023, aiming to build a biomedical industry cluster valued at 50 billion yuan ($6.99 billion) by 2025.

Under the Belt and Road Initiative, Fuling's herbal products have entered international markets, such as Singapore, Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Cambodia. The district's annual export volume of medicinal herbs has exceeded 100 metric tons, showcasing its growing influence in the global market. Its TCM industry recorded an output value of 11.5 billion yuan ($1.6 billion) in 2023.

Fuling's TCM industry transformation is a microcosm of China's development. Drawing on its rich legacy of TCM culture, Fuling is elevating TCM brands to a global presence.
